Winners of the New Magical Creature Contest Announced
March 09, 2011, 03:43 AM
In February our Contest Team invited you to take part in their New Magical Creature Contest,
which asked you to provide a description of 100 words
or less of two likely creatures Hagrid has paired and what they have
produced. After receiving many great entries,
the judges have now picked the winners as follows:
First Place: WeenyOwl
(excerpt from Headmistress McGonagall’s private journal)Second Place:
I fear Horace’s pursuit of rare potions ingredients is luring Hagrid back to his old hybridizing experiments. Their recent mead-fueled debate on the magical properties of pufferfish eyes and the correct pronunciation of ‘bowtruckle’ may explain the Lake’s proliferation of hitherto-unknown wooden fish. When disturbed, these creatures, which Hagrid calls Bowless Rafterfish, swell up until they resemble log rafts. On hot days, students use them as floats and diving platforms – until they suddenly revert to their original form, occasioning much hilarity. At first I worried about potential drownings, but the Giant Squid faithfully retrieves all who drift too far out.

(design changes each month) and 200 MyLeaky points.
Congratulations to everyone who won!
Brilliant work, all, and congratulations. WeenyOwl, I can just hear Minerva reading your piece.
These were a fun read….I love the phrase “Hagrid approved” it says sooo much!
weenyowl, you rock.
Bilmey, I did not see that coming, laughed my stomach off and had to drink calming potion ^^
…and the price is not shabby, eh ;] ?
Weeny owl, That was a funny and well written piece. I can just see Hagrid and Horace at Hagrid’s kitchen table, sloshing back the mead and getting lost in rapturous wonder at the magical animals they have known and loved!
Congratulations WeenyOwl – well done. Very creative and amusing. Not only can I hear Professor M, but also picture every thing describe. Again a hearty well done!
well, second Place is a fun thing for old Fairies like me, because it mentions one of my favourite songs about one of my favourite drinks (that s what causes an “earworm”, the german word if something reminds you of a song and you have it in your brain zthe whole day…) and of course, it s a great bit Artemisian, too. Good job!!!
There all really good, but WeenyOwl’s is brilliant, and it really does sound like Minerva talking. It also made me laugh out loud.
Well done to all of you, each one is so wonderfully creative :D
That was wonderful. Great writing and story telling.
That was hilarious! Great job!!
Ditto! So enjoyable to read about and imagine these new creatures!
All this praise is making me blush! What I especially like to picture is the expression of mild disapproval on Dame Maggie’s face as she carefully articulates the phrase ‘wooden fish.’ (She probably wouldn’t much approve of the student swimmers’ ‘hilarity,’ either – high spirits aren’t exactly Minerva’s forte.)
Woohoo, good job WeenyOwl! Your sense of humor never fails to make me grin. :) I can SO hear McGonogall saying that…
Must go read the other winners’ entries now!
Wow this is great! Congrats to Weeny Owl on your entry, it was hilarious!! Well done to the other winners and all who entered as well :D
Congrats! This is amazing.
